Song Review:

The Kind Of Love I can't Forget

Overall Impression:

New York's King of Western Swing pays beautiful homage to Bob Wills with his performance of "The Kind of Love I Can't Forget" - masterfully capturing the essence of the tune through easy-going instrumental energies and a richly resonant vocal rendition!

Strongest Point(s):

Nolan's vocal tone is once again the crown jewel of the sound - if for no other reason than its unassuming presence in the sound!  The effect achieved in the opening verse is immediately satisfying, using just bass and percussion beneath a playful banter between NBA and his pianist for an intimate introduction to the lyrics.  Soon after the skillful guitar call and response, NBA is joined by subtle vocal harmonies - engaging the listener emotionally for a key lyrical moment.  The instrumental feature from 2:05-2:39 is absolutely gorgeous in tone and timbre, blending strings into a brief but impactful duet before the song's key ascends for a strong emotional finish!

Target Audience Appeal:

Finding its roots in Country and its wings in Jazz, Western Swing is ultimately about not just musical excellence, but artful enjoyment of the form.  Nolan Bruce Allen and his players have honed their craft so well as to take on much of the catalogue that defines the genre - and do it with more than enough skill and performative zeal to both honor the originals as well as make their own significant mark on the scene!  Fans of Western Swing will appreciate Nolan Bruce Allen from the very first moment, and any unfamiliar with the sound will find themselves experiencing "The Kind of Love I Can't Forget" as they expand their tastes to account for excellence of all kinds! - Jon W.
