Song Review:
My Window Faces South
Overall Impression:
There's just something about a Nolan Bruce Allen tune that brightens one's day. Whether its the sheer technical wizardry that's on full display or the welcoming vocal style of Nolan himself, I can always be assured that when I sit down to review a track by this utterly talented and accomplished group of musicians that I will undoubtedly be impressed by the wonderful songwriting prowess that's on show. "My Window Faces South" is another dazzling example of western swing done right, from the virtuoso flourishes to the undeniable charm that embodies the track throughout, this is yet again another solid entry in Nolan Bruce Allen's impressive catalog.
Strongest Point(s):
I'm always blown away by the technical dexterity that these musicians showcase from song to song, it's both effortless and gleaming with personality. The call and response between the lead guitar, lap steel, piano, and fiddle is an absolute joy to listen to and makes for a strikingly fascinating listen. Nolan brings his charming vocal style to the forefront and shows us once more his aptitude for quirky and likeable lyrics that give the song its "down to earth" sensibilities. I particularly like how well the arrangement flows, despite being a brisk 2:32, there is such an exceptional array of ideas throughout that the song feels densely compact with great little details, giving the impression that the track is much longer than it is, this is a sign of solid writing. As always the recording is of an exceptionally high standard and ensures that the great songwriting is highlighted and expressed in the best way possible.
Target Audience Appeal:
This is western swing through and through, however, I'm sure general country lovers will love what "My Window Faces South" has to offer.
